Writing Prompts Day 17

Day 17 of the daily prompts:

Hour

If I could, I would escape all the hours of the day. I would be a free radical floating in time and space without constraints. I can’t. That’s the saddest part of human existence. We have these grand thoughts about dimensions and circular time, but we live out of them. We are bound by gravity and time that comes with it. All we can hope is that there’s some magic trick in death that somehow wipes away the constraints of the body, keeping the mind intact. But hope is a wiggly thing to put all your trust in. It so easily leaves you stranded in the desert of desperation, and yet there’s nothing else the universe has to offer. Science hasn’t been able to answer the great mysteries, not yet, at least. So all there is belief and hope in whatever shape that takes for you and me.

Tree

It’s a dream. It starts with small green shoots, and then it becomes something magical. Something that nature knows to do by self. And here I am under the most magical thing in the universe, a tree that has been there centuries more than I have been. I can press my hand against its bark and feel those years on my skin. I can hear its leaves rustle and feel that time holds no meaning here. It ticks so much slower for it than for me. I wonder if I can slow down to meet its reality, but my fleeting lives burn bright and fast compared to it.

Prayer

I ask you nothing, yet I ask your wisdom to guide me in my time of need
I do not understand what it means to exist
It seems to be a constant agony with slight breaks from the hum of life
Please give us a glimpse of what the universe has for us
Clarify the meaning
Give us peace for our conflicted hearts

The Prompts are from the book: A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.

I’m too tired this morning to function well. My cat woke me up from a full sleep, and I haven’t been able to wake up since. Yesterday, I managed to edit the last chapter of my book a little further. It’s not finished yet. But I’m happy with how everything ties together at the end and how I’m getting the themes toned in the last lines. Now I have to go and take a nap with the other cat. Shut a short one before I face the day and its duties.

Thank you for reading! Have a magical day!
