Day 40 Mulling Over Life And Writing

Day 40 of the daily prompts:

Silhouette

The darkness between the trees was getting to her. She tried not to think about how long her jog had stretched, yet she knew she should not have left so late. The sun was already setting, and it seemed to go faster than she cared for. She picked up her pace and kept running the narrow paths in the middle of the forest back to her car.

“I’ll be fine. I’ll be fine. I have run these paths before. This is my forest.”

Something cawed above her. Then there was crack.

She looked back. Dark silhouettes were between the trees. She kept running. There was nothing she could do; it was just her overactive imagination.

Bunny And Doberman

She watched them play in the backyard. The giant dog rolled next to the tinny baby bunny, pushing its nose against the soft fur. She could watch this for hours. She had at first feared how her dog would react to the fostered bunny, but the giant was gentle and loving. It was like the dog had waited for the bunny to come all its life. The Doberman was more at peace. At night, it seemed to guard the little bunny, and the bunny loved sleeping pressed against the giant.

Baby Ducks

She listened to her laughter. The girl had come yesterday, and already, she was running around the farm like she had lived there all her life. She watched her grandkid chase down the baby ducks, her long hair flowing in the air. The girl let out another giggle, and she could help but smile. Seeing her love for the animals and the farm made the rest of the long, lonely days worth it.

The Prompts are from the book: A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.

Hurry, hurry, hurry. I hate writing in such a hurry. I need to drive to the next town to see my first client of the day. Feeling this way doesn’t make writing any easier, and I woke up at five thirty to give myself even this fleeting moment to write.

Thank you so much for reading! Have a magical day!
