Golden
The golden sunset played with the green of the forest. It was that last hour of wonder before the darkness came and the magical forest turned sinister. She had always been baffled about perception. It tricked the onlooker, the hearer, into thinking that the stories were true, the opposites couldn’t exist, and thoughts and emotions held great respect. Here in the forest, two realities existed simultaneously without the need to remove one or the other. Here, truth wasn’t restricted by the limitations of the human mind. Here, she was free to think all and nothing existed.
Wishes
She knew the price. Everyone did. With a wish, there had to be blood. That was gods for you. They didn’t give it free. And what she was asking for would demand a great sacrifice. But she had to get into a good school. It would define her future. And it was unfair how her background made it harder to get in. She only had to promise to the gods what they wanted, and it would be guaranteed. Nothing was too little of a price to pay for a future.
Musicians
The song blasted loudly in the club as she tried to concentrate. The lead singer was nodding his head in time to the music. It was a song dedicated to him. He and the girl from the other band had fallen in love, and now they were creating music for each other. That was what she was doing, trying to come up with a melody to his cheesy words. Love was such a stupid thing. She would rather stay away from it.
The Prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.
You know that golden hour at the end of the day. I find it magical whenever I’m in the forest. It feels surreal as if everything is possible. Suddenly, the moss-covered ground and the towering fir trees are the playground for the fairies and the elves and for my imagination. Now, as I look out the window at the gray landscape opening up, all I can see are the manufactured constructions and the dullness of the reality we have created. Where is the play? Where is the nature?
Thank you so much for reading! Have a lovely day!
