Rogue
He shifted his weight and watched in the shadows as people walked past him. He would have to wait. There had been a letter ordering him to be here at this day and this hour. He had his mark. He wasn’t only meant to rob the man, he was meant to kill him, too. He was good at it, always had been.
Yet, he felt his eye twitch. Something wasn’t right. He had received orders like this before. There was nothing new to what he was about to do. But the letter didn’t sit right with him. The sum had been more than adequate. The language was plain and simple. The guarantee had been there. Still, he had come here to scout the spot earlier, and everything was perfect. There were no extra guards or others like him in the shadows waiting for him. Still, his instincts told him to walk away.
He knew that he should listen to them.
Fountain Of Youth
She drew the water to her lips. She had read the warning that there would be nothing left of her memories after she drank the liquid, that she would start new. Two years ago, she wouldn’t have. Now, the pain in her lower back was getting worse, and she knew that there wouldn’t be many good years to come.
She drank the water and felt her back straightened. The gray hair turned all red again, and she was as nimble as she used to be. She stared blankly at the fountain and frowned. She wasn’t sure why she was there or who she was supposed to be. She turned around to face the desert and wondered what path to take and where. She couldn’t stay here. Not with all the corpses around. Or could she? Where was she supposed to go?
Love, Desire, Grief
My mind drew a blank with this prompt. Or, more accurately, I couldn’t jump-start it to even begin the prompt. My cat just came to say high and ask if she could have cuddle time. I think I will go with her on the couch. I have a few minutes to spare her before I have to go to work.
The Prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.
Thank you so much for reading! Have a lovely day!
