Day 54 Ruminating And Writing

Rouge

Her rouge cheeks made her appear comical against her white-painted skin. She had made herself into an old-time doll. There were black marks on her joints to make her appear disjointed, as strings held her together. She moved around the room erratically, spooking anyone on her way. He had not seen anyone commit to Halloween as much as she had in ages. Others had bought their outfits ready-made. He had too. But now he wished that he had put in more effort so he could walk up to her with more confidence.

Disappearance

He tapped his fingers against the wheel. The car hummed as he pushed the pedal and sped through the highway. Only half an hour and he would be home. He closed his eyes for a second, and the car driving beside him disappeared. He blinked and watched the spot again. The black SUV was gone. He shook his head, filing the thought away as being too tired after work. But the car in front of him disappeared too. One by one, all the cars in the lain were gone, and there was only him and the hum of his car.

He slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a halt. He jumped out and stood on the empty highway. Everything had gone quiet. There were no other cars around. There was no constant noise coming from the city below. Nothing. Just dead quiet. And his heartbeat.

Cooking Mishaps

Her hands shook as she watched the cake upside down on the floor. It had been her sister’s birthday cake and now she had ruined it. The guests would arrive in an hour, and she couldn’t salvage the situation. She began crying.

The Prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.

I got my prompts mixed yesterday. I mixed rouge with rogue because of my dyslexia. But luckily, today, the first prompt had a rogue, so I could fix it without it being a bother. I couldn’t get my creative writing on today. The prompts felt challenging, and the words got tangled in my thoughts, not wanting to come out. That’s why the last prompt is so brief. And now I have to hurry to work.

Thank you so much for reading! Have a lovely day!
