Silence
The sweet silence, the lack of human noises at the outskirts of the world, that’s what I grave for. The constant electric hum, the car tires grinding against the road, the chatter of meaningless. We produce indifference.
I want to sit there where there are no humans. Only the susurrus of leaves and the calls of the birds unknown. I want to breathe in the humid air and know that I alone am there.
A Pet Dragon
He walked into the pet shop at the corner of his neighborhood. It had appeared there suddenly, and he was sure that he hadn’t seen the shop move in. He was there just out of curiosity. The landlord didn’t allow pets in his apartment but looking couldn’t hurt.
The back wall was filled with colorful fish in their huge aquariums. The rodents were on his left, and rows after rows of cat and dog food surrounded him.
The small man maintained the counter. He was taking stock. He slipped to the aisle to his left and browsed the exotic pet food. He stopped to stare at the coal bag with a pet dragon painted on the side. He took the package into his hands and swirled it around. Organic coal, 100% as promised in the bag.
He frowned, and the small man was there next to him.
“Oh,” he said. “He chose you, then.”
A Gift
He wanted to get a perfect gift for his mother. Something that would let her know how much he loved her. But she was never for the gifts. Ever since he had been a lad, all that made her smile was those awful attempts he had made himself. She wore the silver necklaces, the slippers, the pajamas, all that he had bought, but never she uttered as many kind words as she did for the ashtray he made, and she had no use. Early on, he had learned that the whole gift-giving for her was a game he could never win. He was never satisfied with what he made, and she was never satisfied with what he bought.
The Prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.
I feel fresher now as I wake up from the sofa with my cat. She was as cute as a button and as soft as a cotton cloud. She was extra relaxed and sleepy today, and we had the best morning sleep possible.
I just finished reading Buffalo Hunter Hunter. It was so, so, so good. If you enjoy horror, vampires, and Native American history, then this book is for you. The book could be one of the great ones. Those that live on for decades to come.
Additionally, I finished reading “Fluke” by Brian Klaas. I had mixed feelings about the book. While I agree with its premise that we cannot control the world and the future, but we influence all like butterfly wings, his proofs were anecdotal and drawn to prove his points.
Now, I will switch to writing my book. See you around!
Thank you so much for reading! Have a lovely day!
