Iris
She drew the Irises in her notebook. It was a perfect study of the one in her yard. It was there, along with the other flowers she had drawn with details. The notebook had all that she had seen, from fauna to flora. It was a perfect recount of what the world was like, along with the notes she used to describe the seasonal patterns and the behavioral cues. This was her dream. Through her notebook, she could become the biologist she aspired to be, and society forbade her from being.
Warrior
The town she had grown up raised in front of her. It looked so small compared to the cities and taverns she had seen as the king’s soldiers. How could she return here and pretend that there was no world beyond the rivers and the fields? How could she stay here when she knew that she had killed men and women like her family and their friends?
She sighed. The king had no use for her. The war had been won, and the great other had been killed, and she was free to return to her insignificant life. Her hands shook as she took a step past the first row of houses. Now, there would be no return to the war and the world that had made sense to her the past five years. Who was she supposed to kill now?
Sailor
The sea bellowed beside the wooden ship. He had sneaked in, and now he was starting to regret his decision to flee his home. The sea was rough, and the food he had stolen was stale and hard. He had heard the crew speak of monsters bigger than the ship following them. He had seen its shadow deep in the ocean. He wanted nothing more than to be home. To be the big farmer he was supposed to be. But here he was to be swallowed by the monster.
The Prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.
I usually can give my full attention to only one of the prompts, and the others feel more forced. It would be easier if I didn’t try to write them in one sitting, but I don’t have the patience or time to do it any other way.
My writing process has stalled. I didn’t write my book yesterday, and I don’t think I will write today either. I’m having trouble figuring out the scene I wrote and how to fix it. I want to cut it out, but I need to think about how the plot will move on to Cruxh and what is going on around him. Until I can figure that out, I’m stuck. So, I think I need to flesh out the plot and the setting now instead of writing. It’s so odd as I’m more of a discovery writer than a plotter, but I fear that if I continue discovering, I end up cutting the scenes again and again. I need to test out a new way to write then. In the long run, I think this will be good for me. Or I hope so.
Thank you again for visiting my site and reading my ruminations! Have a pleasant summer day ❤
By the way have anyone of you read the Wandering Inn? Is it any good?
