Day 69 Ruminating And Writing

Battle

The dead lay at his feet, covering the entire field. Luck had only spared him. This was not what they told you when they wanted you to draft. This was not what they said was the cost of a war. They spoke about plains, tanks, guns, lost land, bombs, food supplies, lines, and all that, but they said nothing about the twisted faces of the youth muddied by the soil they had fallen on.

War was never a solution; it was a last call and always pointless. They liked to sell it as just something to be done, as necessary. There always was another choice. And he and his fellow soldiers should have fought against their kings, politicians, the rich, the ones who stole the land from them, and not their neighbors.

He let out a growl. It was what he promised. He would bring justice for his fallen comrades.

Government Database

He was hunched over his keyboard. It was going better than he thought. The person who created the system was a fool. It was too easy for him to get in, and no one cared that he was poking around. He would finally reveal the real purpose of Area 51.

The network inside the place opened up to his computer. It was at first the rotations of the guards, cleaning schedules, and schematics, but finally, he found what he was looking for. His jaw dropped, and his breath was caught in his chest as he watched the image of a vast hangar. Instead of an alien mother ship. There was an enormous man, bigger than ships, tied on a giant metallic slap. It felt like the man was looking straight at him, like he knew who he was, that he was looking, and that he was there for him.

He quit the feed, his hands trembling. He could hear a deep voice inside his head. It told him to find him.

Divorce

I have to skip this one. This is a tough subject for me, bringing up terrible memories from childhood and how my father’s life ended up.

The Prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.

Recently, I haven’t been excited to write the prompts. The words and themes feel annoying, and I have to force myself to get the writing going. It feels like my mind is dull, and there’s no sparkle. It might be due to the tiredness and the need for a vacation. I have August free. I can’t wait for that.

But as always, when I get on with the prompt, words come more easily than they did within the first days. Writing these prompts taught me a thing or two about structural writing and the importance of sticking with it.

I have a little time before I go to work. So, I will set up the sci-fi book project into a new file and start the last edits. I received positive feedback from my beta readers, and they identified some significant issues that I need to address. I was happy that they did. It was the same scene I struggled with when writing, and now, with fresh eyes, I know how to fix it and make the book even better.

Also, I hope the bastards don’t start WW3. It’s us who will die for it, and not them. And wars are always for money and power and not for just causes. The just causes are a marketing trick, and nothing else.

Thank you for reading my ruminations! Have a peaceful day ❤
