Day 73 Ruminating And Writing

Melancholy

I was never given a chance for joy. I was born in a country that is a harbor for melancholy. Where utterances of pain and sorrow are real, and the rest is nonsense. But when they laugh, they laugh for real to heal the open wound they had bestowed on themselves at birth. The body still remembers all the dark winters, the starvation, the occupations, the war that tore the country apart to kill each other, and the war that almost destroyed its existence. My body mourns all that. It doesn’t know how to sing songs about love. The body only knows about the deep fields of snow, the raw icy winds, and the frozen crops. It knows the sorrow of death before it is born. Such is life. Such is this land of mine—fallen people carrying around the sins of their fathers.

Boy-Band Manager

You can guess it. My mind draws a blank here. It’s annoying to use the same gimmick I’ve used before, turning the manager or band members into magical creatures.

Two Sisters

The love of two sisters for the same man was tearing the family apart. Their grandma, who had raised them since their mother died, wasn’t having it. She cast an evil eye at the man who enjoyed playing with the hearts of her children. Now, she only had to wait for the eye to catch the man, and all would be well again. Some healing would be in the cards, but there was always healing to be found in life. That much she had learned. No one escaped it without heartache. The sisters would learn that too. They would learn too that without each other, they wouldn’t survive when she was gone. They would protect each other.

The Prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.

Today, I edited my book first before getting to the prompts. I think it was the right call. I had more energy to spot the mistakes and alter the lines. There is a great deal I need to do with the book. I filled post-it notes with items I’ll need to remember and add to or fix as I go. I love the editing part. I have always liked it. It’s a way to get the story right and make everything shine. One thing is sure: I make mistakes and a lot. My books are filled with terrible sentences, murky lines and intentions, plot issues, and structural problems, needing good editing and editor. I usually conduct a few rounds of editing on my own, and then I send my book to my editor, who completes the final two rounds before publication.

Today’s prompts were annoying. Most so the manager thing. However, I’m glad I took a different perspective on the sister prompt. Writing about falling in love with the same man made little sense. My sister and I are so different that the thought has never crossed my mind. I understand that it happens, and there are grand stories about it, but I have never been one for dwelling on such stories.

I will visit my sister at the end of the week. So, there will be a few days without the prompts. I will catch up with them when I return to visit her and her family. Her youngest one is already counting the days I come.

Thank you for reading! I wish you a lovely day full of summer wonder ❤
