Twin
There had always been the two of them. They weren’t identical. They weren’t even the same sex. But they were twins. No one ever believed they were twins. But they didn’t mind. The loneliness the others spoke of. The hunger for connection that they searched for. All those things were not present with them. They would always have each other.
… I’m not sure where to lead this. I don’t have time to figure that out. It seems to be the theme of this week. No time.
End Of The World
No one had ever thought the world would end this way. If she had to bet about it, she would have said an asteroid or nuclear war or the sun exploding would end the world, but to die because Earth has to be rebooted, that was a new one. One morning, it had been there, written on the sky: Sorry for the inconvenience, we are rebooting the Earth 6.0 in seven days. In the meantime, try not to worry or litter too much. The extra junk always causes the rebooting to have hiccups, and we would like to run a clean next version. Nuclear bombs are especially nasty to clean, for your information.
At first, she, like the others, had thought the message to be a hoax, but when the countdown clock continued and the message remained, and no one took credit for it, the world exploded. She, like the others, had stopped going to work, stopped caring about wearing the right clothes, applying makeup, and doing anything that was considered useless. The third day, she had cried her eyes out. Read about every philosophical and religious doctrine handling the meaning of life, existence, and the afterlife. On the fourth day, she had drunk every known alcohol and snorted things into her nose she never knew to exist. And now on the sixth day, she was as calm and indifferent as she could be. Nothing could be done to prevent the reboot. She had accepted her death and the fact that she was nothing but a code in the program. She wondered if the 7.0 version of her would remember any of this. What would her life be like in the next version? Or would she even be born?
Picture
This prompt is about a picture taken that means something to me. I don’t have time for this. This might have been a great prompt to write.
The Prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.
Once again, I have to hurry to work. Today, I did things differently. I started my morning writing and editing my book. It was a good decision as I haven’t been able to work on it for a couple of days now. But because I chose it over these prompts, I had to hurry things up with these and wasn’t able to write all of them. Now I need to go… I would love to know how the ‘End of the World’ prompt ends. Perhaps I will mull it over throughout the day.
Thank you for reading! I wish you a peaceful day ❤
