Day 99 Ruminating And Writing

Crocodile

The huge reptile moved along the waterline. It swayed its body from side to side, making the swim look easy. She had never seen a crocodile live before, and seeing it through the fence felt like she hadn’t seen one now either. This felt too controlled, but what she had read about the reptiles made her glad that there was a fence between her and the creature, so ancient and magnificent, yet with a short temper and finely tuned hunting instincts. It was a thing of beauty despite the fear bubbling underneath every inch of her body.

Flu

His mother was curled up on the bed. She coughed a dry heave out again, sounding horrible. He tiptoed back to the kitchen, where he was brewing her a cup of hot blackcurrant juice. He remembered that whenever he was feeling sick, she made it for him. He put a teaspoonful of honey and watched it melt into the hot liquid. He tiptoed back to the bedroom and put the hot cup next to his mother’s bed.

Background

This is a prompt about an unfamiliar cultural background. I don’t have time to research the subject, so I skip this one.

The Prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.

I went out yesterday to spot a climbing friend, and while I was there, I watched an adder snake up a tree to a wooden bird nest. The birds were highly alarmed, and they tried several times to fly into the next and help the chicks, but what could they do? My friend had an instinct to go and get the snake off the nest, but it doesn’t work that way. The snake has as much of a right to do what it does as the birds do. It’s so easy to hate crocodiles, snakes, and other scary reptiles, but it serves nothing. When the adder had finished eating and emerged again, I went to check it. It hissed at me from quite a far distance. It had coiled itself between the bird nest and the tree. It was magnificent and terrifying. Something I will remember for quite a while.

Thank you for reading! I wish you a day full of wonder ❤ It is the small things that add up and make it worthwhile.
