Dirge
Your life was never yours
You knew not how to be
I watched you wither away
As you pushed me aside
Now you lie there
On the dusty ground
I mourn you every day
There’s no life to celebrate
King Arthur
The towering horse stood on the set. He had been able to avoid riding rehearsals thus far, but now the director had hunted him down. He wondered if this would end his short stardom at the big stages; that it had been a stupid thing to lie on his resume about all the brave deeds he could do. The horse looked at him like it was ready to kick. He should never have claimed to have competed on national levels in his youth. The mere look of the beast made his knees want to buckle.
The director and the rest of the set waited for him to mount the horse and do the scene.
There was no way out of this to save his face. One way or another, they would all find out that he was afraid of horses, had no clue how to ride, and had lied about many more things. He took a step forward. His knee swayed.
The horse shook its mane and let out a noise that he was sure meant that it was going to bite him.
“I can’t work like this,” he shouted and stormed out. In his dressing room, he collapsed against his door and searched for his phone to call his agent. He would have to learn how to ride tonight.

Too hot. I was barely able to write at all.
The Prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.
We don’t have a good air conditioner in our home, and we live on the top floor. This is an old house, where alterations are not permitted, meaning this suffering will continue. The air used to flow from the cellar throughout the building, keeping the building moderately cold. However, all the alterations (meaning, modifying the old building to accommodate more housing) interrupt the original design, so the air doesn’t flow as well as it used to. Meaning it’s hot, and I can no longer think. Writing has become slow, and I try to spend my days outdoors, preferably swimming in the cold lakes for which Finland is known. I’m heading out to swim today, too. That’s for sure.
I skipped yesterday because the heat. I just couldn’t work.
Thank you for reading! I hope you have a lovely day, and the temperature is just right for you ❤
