Day 120 Ruminating And Writing

Bitter

The green leaves tasted bitter. They were meant to give her body oxidative stress. They were meant to make her live longer. All she wanted was to spit them out and tell everyone to fuck off. This constant hunger for immortality and eternal youth was pissing her off.

Tiger In A Tutu

The beat of the jungle changed. The colors twisted over a backdrop of the forest, and the lines between matter morphed into one. The tiger in a tutu continued its slow dance in the middle of the jungle.

She lay on the ground, letting the roots twist into her. The starry sky sparkled over the treetops, coming down on her. The tiger began singing about the fall of the human race.

Rude Neighbors

The quiet apartment building was at the heart of the city, in a secluded alley that you almost forget exists. The residents had built an enormous garden to shield it from the onlookers. It was a paradise, or so he thought. He lived there with his daughter. Everything had been perfect until the two college kids moved in. They took the apartment above theirs. They partied every night, driving him sleepless. But he didn’t want to say anything. Never in his life had he been rude.

He carried her daughter on his lap, and in his other hand, he had the grocery bag.

One of the college kids came down the stairs. The boy had dark circles under his eyes.

“Look, Papa, a zombie,” his daughter said.

“Shhh,” he replied.

She didn’t listen. “Are you the oaf who makes the racket every night?” she asked.

The boy stopped in his tracks.

“If you were in my storybooks, I bet you would be a villain, or a stupid ogre,” she continued.

The boy’s face went red, and he said nothing. He hurried past them, flying down the stairs.

He hugged his daughter tighter. She was very much like her mother.

The Prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.

I have a splint on, and I have to wear it for a month, 24/7. Writing one-handed is slow and hard. But I will try my best.

I want to get better at creating a mood through the setting. I tried to test it with today’s prompts. I’m happy with how it worked with the Rude Neighbors and the tiger story.

I had to take a pause almost every sentence. I’m using my shoulder to help me write, and it is painful.

Thank you for reading ❤ Have a wonderful day!
