Day 175 Writing Short Things

Lily

The blue haze had swallowed the entire town. Everything had become melancholic dull, wet and dark. The occasional red lights of the cars broke the haze, making the town look more haunting than alive. It was as if it stood at the edge between life and death, waiting for the world to end.

She followed with her gaze as a jackdaw flew across the street. The house beside the road had boarded windows and no light shone between the cracks. The wooden building was surrounded by the tall fir trees, blackened by the haze.

She stepped forward to the house and knocked. There was a shuffle of feet inside, hesitating. Not understanding who would dare to knock.

She knocked again.

The door cracked open ever so slightly. There was only darkness and the shape of a body.

“I’m Lily, and I’m here to help. I’m an exorcist.”

Anniversary Present

Give me the sky
Give me the moon
Give me all the oceans and the threes
Steal me the sparkle of the night sky
Steal me all the stories untold
I need none of that
I just want you to look at me the way you do
Hold my hand and be still
That’s all I ask of you

Cool

Little joke, little awkward dance. I would have it back if it meant you were here. I wouldn’t mind the embarrassment now as I know what it means to be without you.

The prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.

I was naughty. I didn’t want to write the last two prompts as intended. There should have been a husband buying the wrong present and a dad embarrassing his son in front of his friends. But I wanted none of that. I wanted something more.

Also, I’m not sure what Lily will find inside the house. All I know is that it’s leaking outside to the town, keeping it as a hostage.

Thank you for reading ❤ Have a day full of stories, told and untold!
