Soar
The planet was beautiful in its toxic, murderous ways. Everything that had dawned there tried to kill her. The plants were poisonous. The animals were venomous. Everything was huge. Bigger than she had seen on other planets. And she had seen enough planets to know that this couldn’t be terraformed. The planet could be mined and stripped of minerals, but the new terraforming law stated that if there was even a slight chance for intelligent life, the planet was to be left alone.
She watched as a dragon-like creature soared up into the gray clouds. It was the first of its kind she had seen. The reading they had gotten from the dragon made it an unintelligent animal. Yet, a predator without a match of its kind. It had attacked and trashed enough ships’ orbs for her not to want to get too close, even though the beast looked majestic.
There were smaller animals that could be counted as somewhat intelligent. But the planet also had valuable minerals, and she knew what that meant. She was to doctor her documentation to give her company access to the minerals.
She recorded the flight of the dragon, and sent it to her friends at the news corporations. Maybe intelligence wouldn’t save this planet, but a fantasy would.
Courting
A naïve, romantic man is charmed by a sarcastic, pessimistic woman. I skipped this one.
Bulldog
Man buys a bulldog, a cat, and a parrot when his wife is away on a business trip. I skipped this one, too.
The prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.
I had a slow morning. I could get my focus where it mattered. I have too many things to do. So instead of doing them, I postponed everything and did nothing. Yay.
I was pretty sure that prompts wouldn’t amount to anything, but luckily, I got a spin to Soar, which made it more alluring to write. However, I struggled with every word I chose. But I got it done.
Thank you for reading ❤ Have a slow day!
