Herd
The huge, elephant-like creatures with hardened skin grazed the grassy fields opening before her. Their movement pattern felt disjointed for their huge mass. She had been drawing them to her pad, recording their movements so they could be logged into the system for future travelers. She didn’t need to draw them; a recoding would be enough, but she loved doing things manually. It made her feel more like she had done something.
The elephant-like creatures were docile, more so than the ones on Earth. She had never seen the originals. She had never been to Earth. She was born on a spaceship and had only seen the planets they had visited.
She was a science officer on the spaceship with extraterrestrial specialization. This was what she loved the most. To observe, record, and learn what the alien creatures did. One day, she would find an intelligent species and understand how the universe worked. What their thoughts were about how it came to be, and if there was some greater force behind it. Now there was only the eternal debate: how to prove something not to exist.
She glanced behind her hovercraft and knew she should head back already. But she allowed herself an extra two hours. They would leave soon, and she would never see the herd and its disjointed movement patterns again.
Alien Princess
Alien Princess goes to school on Earth. I skipped this one, too.
Krampus
A nasty boy meets Krampus on Christmas Day. I skipped this one.
The prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.
I have been sleeping too little lately. So I went back to the sofa with the cat and slept a second sleep this morning. It started with a few late nights. It takes a toll on writing. One or two nights I can do, but there have been more than two in a row now. I need to do better tonight and get more sleep. I’m lucky that I don’t work on Mondays, so I get an extra day of rest. But I shouldn’t abuse it as I have done now.
I hope you have a better day than I do and feel rested. Happy reading and writing! Thank you for stopping by ❤ Have a wonderful day and see you tomorrow!
