Worm
She turned around to shoot the thing. It was still coming fast, its huge teeth waving in the air. The air was rushing into its enormous gut. The shots didn’t seem to do anything to stop the massive forest worm.
She had seen those things on other planets before, usually in a desert environment, and they were never aggressive. This one was.
Her ship was farther into the forest, and she wasn’t sure if it mattered whether she made it there or not. The worm was big enough to chomp the craft between its teeth.
Her mission was supposed to be just a normal fact-gathering mission over the forest section of the planet. She was not meant to fly down and do grunt work. Yet, she had. She had abandoned all protocol when she found remnants of an old, fallen ship. Ship just like hers. Ship, she thought she recognized. The ship belonged to her father.
The remnants were past the worm. She hadn’t been able to confirm whether what she had seen was a ship or not. She had only seen the roots and branches that had covered her sight.
The worm was gaining on her. The running wasn’t working. She looked up at the trees where ape-like creatures hooted their warnings, swinging from tree to tree. The birds overhead shot into the sky, cawing.
The place was so similar to Earth. So the worm was most likely detecting her movements through the sensors on its skin. She spun around the next tree and saw the worm crashing through the trees to the trajectory of its movements as it tried to turn to meet her pattern. She kept repeating her movements, guiding the worm with sharp movements, wearing it out.
Finally, when it stopped moving, she saw it was in a half-coma-like state. She wondered whether she had overheated the massive creature, as the ancient hunters on Earth did in their hunts.
She glanced towards the probable crash site. She couldn’t risk going back. There was no telling if there were more of the worm creatures there. The only option was to hike back to the ship and send a drone down. Before she did, she shot a tracking beacon into the worm, leaving it there.
Banished
A noble is banished to look after a town in the middle of nowhere. He is first enraged about the matter, but soon finds it rewarding. I skipped this one. This one could have been a good one.
A Past Event
Describe a past event from your life as if it were a historical event. This could have been a good learning opportunity. Still, I skipped this one.
The prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.
I have been sleeping all day. I had a bad allergic reaction to the medication I got for my shoulder. I ended up at the ER last night. I got a new medication to help me with it, and now I have been sleepy. My face is still slightly swollen from the event.
Anyway, because of the extreme tiredness, I’m happy that I managed to write the first one today. I almost didn’t. I was sure I couldn’t find the stamina to do so, that I would sleep all day.
Thank you for reading ❤ Have a wonderful day!
