Power
The ocean swayed next to the shoreline. Its power had smoothed the stones round, revealing the layer of fossils hidden in the bedrock. She let her hand glide over the crinkles on the stone, feeling the years and years that had passed before her.
She sat there quietly, watching as the seabirds played at the coastline, fishing from the shallow pools of water.
This was real power. She lay her back on the stones and let the sun heat her face. The clouds slowly moved over her as she still swirled her fingers over the fossils, reminding herself how short everything was.
Teenager
A teenager overhears their parent speak ill of them to their friend, and first is mad, but then realizes their mother is right. I skipped this one.
Fraternal Twins
Fraternal twins, a boy and a girl, look so much alike. Their friend mistakes them. I skipped this one.
The prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.
I miss the ocean. I watched videos of a woman living next to a coastline, exploring the caves and the pools of water, and I felt an ache inside me I haven’t felt for a long time.
I think we have mistaken what is real and what isn’t. Oh, why do we get life so wrong? Why does the glistening power of cities and the complicated social dynamics there sweep us away? We could do this without all of that. Without the constant running. We could be content with less. Why isn’t it enough to listen to the songbirds sing, watch the sea slugs move, and dance barefoot on the coastal rocks?
Why do I forget all that and run after unnecessary things?
Thank you for reading ❤ Have a dreamy day!
