Imp
When food was short, and sleep was nowhere to be seen, the little imp inside her lifted its ugly head. It started as a low rumble, then a growl, turning into a full-blown roar. Then she flopped to her side and held her stomach. It was never a good thing to be hungry and tired.
Troll
The huge rocks undulated around the tall fir trees, gathering moss over the years, when their origin, their history, was forgotten. The little ones were used as stepping stones. The bigger ones were conquered. Underneath all that, the trolls slumbered, waiting for the day when the magic came back.
Day
I still remember you sitting there in the darkness. Your face is now morphed and faded by memories that can’t hold anything forever as it was. I have forgotten your voice, the sound of your tone. I have forgotten how you move. If I could get one day back, it would be the day when I last saw you. I would remember every detail of you, so you would never be lost as you are now.
The prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.
Today was a day of short things. We have trolls in Finland. Not too far from me, there are these huge rocks that are said to be trolls, who have gone to slumber. I found references in an old book that had gathered old wives’ tales from the area. Before Christianity, the Finns had a very animistic religion. The world was born from an egg. Our gods were tied to our nature. I think those traditions in Estonia are more alive than they are here in Finland.
Anyway, the huge boulders you see around are trolls. So be kind.
Thank you for reading ❤ Have a day of magic!
