Day 33 of the daily prompts:
Myth
He gripped the rim of his jacket and peered into the cave. He tried to ignore the cheers behind him, urging him to step inside. They all knew the myths of the disappeared children and the ancient gods.
He swallowed and glanced behind him. The twisted faces his friends were making seemed as terrifying as stepping inside. He took a deep breath and let the darkness swallow him. There was nothing but his heartbeat.
A Phone Call
“Hello,” she said.
There was nothing at first, but then the noise on her phone started crackling.
“Hello?” she repeated. She shouldn’t have picked up. She never did when it was a strange number, and now suddenly she had thought it was a good idea.
There was the crackle again.
“I’m hanging up,” she said.
“Don’t,” came a man’s voice.
“Give me one good reason why not,” she growled. She should hang up, but something kept her on the line.
“Because you know as much as I do, this is your destiny.” The line crackled again.
Now she was ready to hang up. This was a new level of harassment.
“Not like that. You know me, Mary. You have always known me. We go around in circles in time. But we got separated in this timeline. Listen, I don’t have much time left. But you need to find our book, you need to find me. I’m stranded…”
The line cut off.
A Hike
“I’m not going in there,” she said.
“We have to. We can’t keep walking in circles in the woods and hope someone will find us. It’s getting dark and cold,” her friend said.
“Okay, but if we get murdered, it’s your fault.” She followed her friend into the dark cabin in the middle of nowhere. They had gotten lost in their hike from the trail, and now she was going to get murdered.
They knocked on the door, but there was no answer. Her friend tried the door handle, and to their surprise, it was opened. The switch next to the door flipped the lights on, and instantly, everything felt better. They rummaged through the cabin. It had dry-packed food, water, and a fully stocked fireplace ready to be lit.
She let her friend light the fire, and she instead readied a meal for them…
I ran out of time. Something strange would have followed up. I was thinking of a time loop, aliens, or something where they were test subjects to some horrible experimentation.
The Prompts are from the book: A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.
I have a busy morning. I have to drive to the next town to work. I usually work in my local town, but on Wednesdays I need to go to the office. Maybe one day I won’t have to do this. I wish that day would come faster. I like what I do. I like to be a therapist and work with children, and at the housing rehabilitation center for youth with mental health and drug abuse issues, yet I still hate being constricted by schedules and working for others. I like the freedom of writing and slow mornings.
Thank you so much for reading! Have a magical day!

This is excellent exercise for a storyteller.
Also: looks kinda fun.
The cave one makes me think of the story of Hamlin.

I think that too. The writing prompts have kindled my passion for writing again and I feel more creative because of them. And yes! They are fun. Most often.
