Jagged
The valley had been the only rest they had gotten thus far. The jagged mountains rose around them, reminding them that the stop was not permanent. They had a duty to fill, a quest.
For now, they had taken up residence in a kind lady’s house surrounded by cherry blossoms. It was truly a magical place. All of them would like to dwell in the slowness of the valley and in the lady’s kindness, who had fed them. She had even let them use her bathhouse.
Maybe they would return here once it was done, once the doomed sword was broken and the king was found.
She strapped her bow to her back and watched her companions. They hadn’t known each other before the queen had sent them here. But now she was willing to die for them, if it meant they would succeed. Her two companions had proved themselves. They had saved her from the giant spiders. She would be food now if it weren’t for them.
Sword
He had been cursed to remember his cruelty, his foolishness. The hilt of the sword pressed against his hip. It was silent now. It had been days since he had offended it. But the dead man would be there to remind him who he had been and what he had done. Now there was just the need for redemption. He would return the sword to the dead man’s family, and maybe finally all of them would have some peace. Along with the sword, he would offer the oldest of his sons to kill him. Kill him for their father, the man trapped inside his sword.
Betrayal
I don’t know how to write about betrayal. It has always been something I struggle with, both writing and reading. I know I should push myself to write about it. I should. Yet, I give myself an excuse not to do it as I’m heading to work soon.
The prompts are from the book A Year of Creative Writing Prompts.
I had fun writing today, both while editing my book and while writing these. I wanted the first one to have a sense of friendship and closeness. I so often write from a loner’s perspective. The group setting was refreshing. Maybe I should do it more.
Thank you for reading ❤ Have a day full of friends!
