The Time Of My Life
Any good shop carries duct tape, hammers, cans of food, and bubblegum. I have been living on those things for years now as I have watched the world go to shit. Duct tape can fix anything, starting from a bleeding wound to the backpack you have stolen from some poor motherfucker, who got bit in the face. Hammer, I never go out without one. I have left my share behind inside a skull or two, but I will always have a spare one as I run away from the zombies. Cans are a godsend from a bygone era that no one knows any longer. Without them, humanity wouldn’t have survived even a week in the zombie apocalypse, which started from one careless government experiment with fungi and biological weapons, as they always do. Then there is the bubblegum. I just like it, and it keeps my mouth busy so I do not notice hunger or the fact that my teeth haven’t had a decent wash for who knows how the fuck long.
But about the zombie apocalypse. It’s the best thing that has ever happened to me. It fixed all my problems. You know the basic shitty ones: mortgages, finding a job, a girlfriend, making something out of myself, and the rest of the shitty things life was all about. All that is gone now. The bankers went first. Soft little buggers. Some of them, at least. I hung up with one decent banker-bloke a month ago, but even he got finally bitten by a zombie. Now he is dog meat, and I’m still alive and kicking.
The other good part of a zombie apocalypse is that there is a clear discord whenever you meet some other sucker still trotting on. The only word you really need is ‘zombie,’ and occasionally you might add: ‘on your left.’ But that’s all you need if you don’t feel chatty, and I don’t feel particularly chatty, not even in an apocalypse. Others tend to want to share their life stories. I don’t. This is the coolest shit I have done. But they don’t take it well when you start to speak about your first kill and second, so I have learned to keep my mouth shut and just listen and hope the most noisy ones get picked up by zombies. They always do.
So here I am, in the busy metropolis, making my way through the city one store at a time, and killing anything that might get in my way.

I almost didn’t make it today. I had a slow morning, watching movies and trying to wrap my head around what to do today. I still haven’t figured that out. I’m just glad that I could write a short one today. At least I managed to do that, and my day was saved. What I got today was conversational horror, overcoming a monster done in first-person. All I hope I achieved.
Thank you for reading! Have a zombie-free day ❤
P.S. I had to listen to Bill Medley’s and Jennifer Warnes’s The Time Of My Life music video.
