A Monster

Luring someone onto a dark path is relatively easy, and I have found that I’m more than good at it. You could say it is my specialty. So when the aliens came—not the kind, cuddly ones with big eyes, no, the ones with big teeth and spears for arms—I didn’t reside with the humans; no, I made a pact with the aliens and brought my friend David along.

Back then, in the year one of the alien apocalypse, David thought it was a good idea. He agreed with my reasoning, especially after we found out—surprise, surprise—that the space-traveling aliens were highly intelligent despite their appearance. He and I got to live a good life. Okay, relatively so. There was still mass human extinction going on along with the destruction of the planet. But still pretty decent. We only had to infiltrate the rebel human factions and help the aliens take them down.

But David grew a conscience, being human and all, by his own admission, and I was captured, tortured, and used against the aliens. Now, I’m the most hunted man on the planet by both sides. I know too much about the inner workings of both sides.

Not all is bad. I get to kill everyone I come across, and last I heard, David is dead now, so he got his own.

Sorry to leave this short again. I have to leave for work. I’m leaving tomorrow for a climbing trip, and there won’t be stories for a while. I will be back next week and try to get back to writing as soon as I can.

I took liberties with today’s assignment. What I got was a comic science fiction story about overcoming a monster, written in the omniscient third person. Then the first sentence came out and screwed the assignment. It wasn’t me! It’s the stupid brain and the process of creation. I had fun writing this, and I actually would like to write a longer version of this story. I usually keep my characters somewhat nice and honest, so it felt good to write someone with looser morals. The tone I got from the book I’m reading: John Dies at the End by David Wong. I don’t understand why it has taken me this long to read the book. It is just the kind of book I love.

Thank you for reading! Have an alien-free day, and see you next week ❤
